We hope everyone is staying cool out there on the trails; August is upon us and we have a few fun things happening this month and some awesome news.First off our normal weekly/monthly rides.Wednesday Night South Side Group Rides will continue to roll out form the Groce Rd. parking lot at 6pm. These are all levels welcome "No Drop" group rides at a casual pace. If the groups are large enough we may split up into multiple groups to keep it fun for everyone.Saturday the 7th Holston Creek Beginner Ride at 9am. This ride is geared towards well... beginners! Or anyone looking for a slow paced guided ride around a well laid out flowy trail. Have a friend that's thinking about checking out some trails? Bring them out; its a perfect opportunity for them to get on a bike and get a taste of what its all about. Some additional cool stuff happening this monthFriday the 20th is the Spartanburg Criterium If you have never been you defiantly need to come check it out. This is elbow to elbow skinny tire racing around downtown Spartanburg! Several of our members and board members will be racing this year and there is even a kids lap!! Racing officially starts at 3:15 pm with the last race of the evening starting at 8:15 pm.Samba will have a tent on the outer perimeter (location B39) near the corner of Broad and Church. You are welcome to stop by and grab a snack, a beer and just hang out to chat and watch the race. This is one of the things through out the year that your membership dues make possible so come out to check it out.Sunday the 22nd.South Side Post Crit Group Ride rolling out from the Groce road parking lot at 1pm. Like with our other group rides this is a no drop ride and all levels are welcome to join.Last but certainly not least... (probably should have been the first item)We are super excited to announce that beginning this year some of your member dues are now going out to support Spartanburg county's very own NICA team; Spartanburg County Composite MTB!!! So far this year they already have 10 student athletes and 10 coaches. A very strong start for something that what will hopefully have a huge impact for these kids.SCCM has taken off from a conversation point and hope of ours thanks to the hard work and dedication of their Team Director and Main Coach Terry Boxx (and family) as well as his right hand man and Coach Tyler Tessnear. They have really gone above and beyond in getting this program rolling for these kids. The team is open to county residents from grades 6-12. If you have a young one, would be interested in helping out/coaching or know of someone that may be interested in joining the team please let them know that it DOES exist in Spartanburg.
